B. Hermann is interested in the correlation of structure and conformation of low-dimensional systems with their electronic (magnetic) properties. In the past she investigated layered superconductors, nano-structured surfaces, and self-ordering mono-molecular layers and answered questions on how the structural and morphological properties influence the electronic properties of the materials over a wide temperature range. She employed scanning probe techniques, especially scanning tunneling microscopy, and macroscopic conductance measurements in magnetic fields. She studied in Karlsruhe and at the Oregon State University, U.S.A. and received a Ph.D. in physics from FU-Berlin in 1997. With a Liebig Stipend of the Fonds of the Chemical Industry Germany (1998-2000) she was a group leader in the group of Prof. Hans-Joachim Güntherodt . She held a six year C3-professor position of experimental physics at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich and now holds a research position at the Walther-Meissner-Institute.
